The University of Miskolc already established itself as a true universitas, thanks to the more than 50 specializations belonging to its 8 faculties which together encompass all educational levels provided by the Act on Higher Education (these include the bachelors degree, the masters degree, the high level vocational education, the PhD education and the postgraduate education).
It is well known that our university is remarkably colorful and it is also a prominent educational, scientific and pedagogical institution. It is an independent community of approximately 14000 practitioners and students of the sciences, one that aims to provide the freedom of thought and research, and also the opportunity for economically viable intellectual development. However, according to our belief, the University of Miskolc also has another special purpose: to be the intellectual centre of the Northern Hungarian region. Whether we take a look at the “union-centric thinking” or at the common reformative thoughts, we have to realize that the times of economic isolation and intellectual handicraft are equally over. Today, the universities have to operate as euroregional knowledge centers and we firmly believe that ours operate in such a way!
The activities of universities, embodied in preserving, enhancing and imparting knowledge, have been today supplemented by the obligations of providing flexible responses to the demands of the economy and direct participation in developing the economy. The students studying in the Bologna-type programmes become participants in an up-to-date system of education aimed at meeting the demands of the labour market. By visiting our website you can get to know the programmes offered by our faculties and read about the life of our students. You can also become familiar with our campus that is located in a natural environment unique in Europe: from the academic buildings to the student hostels, to the library, the dining halls, all the way to the up-to-date workshop hall.
According to the belief of the current leadership of the University of Miskolc, the development strategy of the following years will have to be an organic continuation of our development so far, keeping everything that has taken us forward and discarding that which has had its day. A renewal has started on multiple areas at our University – not solely in the economic and moral senses – which is warmly welcomed by both the population of the city, the county and the region, as well as by the citizens of our university. As part of this renewal – which is far from over –, the university has gradually opened towards its industrial partners and this opening process can be further catalyzed by joining the Industry 4.0 National Technological Platform.
